this is clue no 2 about something I am launching at the end of this year, for Serpent Dance's first anniversary.
It very much has a lot do to with Sir Michael Jackson.
Because my entire journey within the arts is inspired and was impacted by him
(Maybe you can tell I had "In The Closet" as inspo for this clip)
Those who know me well know what MJ means to me. Can't really put it into words so I won't even bother trying. I never really choreographed to his music that much in the past because I always felt not worthy loool
His music just does things to me like no other....that's why I feel I need to honor him appropriately when I do create to him.
I am overcoming this reluctance now though...because more MJ things will drop in the future. And it feels GREAT. Like I'm coming home.
But let's go back to the beginning.
There was a time in my childhood where I wouldnt listen to anyone else but Michael. Every day and night. I was obsessed. Still am, I guess.
The Invincible album was the first MJ album I ever owned (i loved it so much, I even took it to bed with me 😠put it under my pillow). In my opinion one of the most underrated albums in the history of pop music. I love that I was able to get to know MJ that way - by listening to his least popular album. We all love and cherish the classics, but the Invincible album will always be my childhood, furthermore I always had a thing for his more mature pop-sound.
I would cry to this album, dance to it, sing to it..perform to it. It inspired me. I kept listening specifically to this song, Heartbreaker, and imagined how I would perform it....there we are. This is how I would perform it.
MJ played a key role in shaping my own artistry and he always will. The connection has always been there.
That's where it all began.
And that's how I will continue.
Stay tuned for Dec 15th
