The Serpent

You may ask, why Serpent Dance?
Why the Serpent? Isn't the serpent a symbol of distrust and treachery?

The Serpent is representative of Kundalini, or more specifically Kundalini Shakti. She is the Serpent Goddess who rises from the base of the body to its crown. Kundalini is pure feminine energy and consciousness moving through matter, a healing force. It's a supercharged concentration of energy that, when cultivated and awakened, runs through your spine releases blockages in the chakras, resulting in spiritual liberation.

In shamanism, the snake is an ancient symbol of transformation and healing. A snake must shed skin, or she will die. Just like the snake, when we go through a process of deep transformation, we are also asked to let go of what no longer serves us. This allows us to upgrade our vibration, allowing for new vibrational matches to come into our lives.

Serpent Dance is deeply inspired by my own life, its trials and tribulations, as well as my own spirutal path and the spiritual knowledge I have gained throughout my time on planet earth.
The dance industry frustrates me. Deeply. Although we all claim to be involved in the same art form, the actual art seems to be heavily neglected. We worry too much about what we look like, we compete, we feel less than. It's all about who is better, fitter, stronger. The emphasis seems too much upon dance as a sport, rather than dance as an art form. We should be able to express freely without being judged. Isn't that what art is all about?
Every body is different, so why are we molding ourselves into shapes that do not come naturally to us?
Movement is unique, like the sound of your voice. Why would we complain about the sound of someone else's voice?
Serpent Dance is my contribution to the dance world, offering a different perspective where connecting with your internal world is the guide to your own creativity.
Being an artist means being an alchemist.
Transforming shitty feelings into art. That's what it should be about.
Dance technique should be understood as a tool to enrich your dance vocabulary, for the mere purpose of giving you more "words" to express yourself with ❤️

Connection

In Serpent Dance classes, we are particularly looking into connections of various kinds. Serpent Dance seeks to understand connection on a deeper level. And there's a few different ways in which we do that:

• connection with yourself
Serpent Dance fosters emotional expression through the process of going within. That's why we have sit-down sessions in the beginning of each class, where we take a few minutes to meditate, pull cards from an oracle deck, and write things down that we wish to release or manifest. This is done in *connection* with a specific emotion. Each Serpent Dance class focuses on a different one.

• connection with the four dimensions of being
Serpent Dance works with the 4 dimensions of being (there exist more dimensions than 4 though), which fruitfully integrate your dance experience with your internal world. These dimensions are
The Mental Plane - by conjuring up a specific emotion and speaking about it in the sit down session, as well as writing down goals and affirmations
The Emotional Plane - by feeling into the specific emotion. This is enhanced by the process of listening to music/the song chosen for class. All of the four main classes (Golden Light, Blue Moon, Red Aries and Orange Venus) highlight different emotions and therefore song choices are attuned to those emotions.
The Physical Plane - by moving to the music, learning choreography and technique
The Spiritual Plane - by *connecting* with your higher self and the divine

• connection with other souls in the room
Serpent Dance has very strong values. Everyone is welcome to my classes. They are a safe space in which learning and expressing comes first.

• connecting with art
I strongly believe that art changes the world. By dancing to amazing songs, we actively connect with the artist's soul and their approach to artistic expression. That's why I make sure to pick soulful music to dance to. Furthermore, Serpent Dance connects with other dancers and art forms in my Art Collab classes. The fusion of various different art forms introduces you to new ways to understand yourself and *connect* to something bigger.

It has always been one of my big visions and dreams to combine multiple art forms for the sole purpose of artistic expression and soul-searching.
This is what dance means to me. It is my preferred means of expression. I view dance technique learning new steps as an enrichment of your own vocabulary. As you may notice, this dance program is not rooted within the commercial dance industry, nor is it trying to compete. I have been wanting to create a place for, yes, training (because I myself value good training more than anything when taking a class), but more importantly, for connection and expression.
I strongly believe that art changes the world. When we express and create, we channel something bigger than ourselves - we connect with the infinite source of creativity, where magic, wonder and msytery lies. You are merely the messenger, it's a spiritual process.

With Serpent Dance's Art Collab classes, I am bringing different art forms and artists together, so we can all learn from each other and learn new ways of channeling that creative energy.
Since dance is my profession and craft, the dance classes are provided my me. However, I have wonderfil collabs planned for the near future. Acting classes, music classes, painting....photography. let's see where it takes us.
All of these classes are true to the SD concept, meaning that they explore a certain type of emotion.
I am a lover of all the arts. That's how my dance films "The Journey" came into existence. My love for film, acting, music and obviously dance. That's my calling in life. To discover all the arts and learn. Serpent Dance is just a manifestation of that.

Serpent Dance is a way for me to bring together everything I love in life, and put it on a silver platter for others to enjoy. Not just the arts and dance, but also my love for life, spirituality, expression, the moon cycle...learning..
Every class incorporates a little meditation session before the warm-up, where we connect with ourselves. Then we go into oracle cards.
I started learning about Tarot when I was 8 years old (my favorite show Charmed made me do it).

Beyond excited for what's to come!💘
